Psychiatry CME Talk: 12 Steps to Better Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder
Dr. Dave Robinson a Consultant Psychiatrist with the CMHA in London, St. Thomas and Strathroy. He is also the psychiatrist for the Early Episode Psychosis Program in St. Thomas.
Dr. Robinson has been the lead author for the Mental Health Chapter in the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines for the past 13 years.
Objectives:
Review the expectable response rates to antidepressant monotherapy in treating MDD
Examine some potential causes for why SSRI monotherapy may be holding people back from achieving remission
Distinguish between the mechanisms of receptor interactions vs. reuptake inhibition
Look at the role of atypical antipsychotics as adjuncts in treating MDD
